WELCOME TO AUTISTIC CAT STUDIO
Get to Know Me
I was first introduced to glass fusion when I was 12 years old and my mom took me to a studio that offered many types of art classes. Although I had no interest in taking a class I enjoyed putting together the fragmented glass pieces. Aside from my mom’s high praise, which doesn’t count, the owner of the studio expressed genuine praise for the pieces I created and told me I should consider selling them.
At 12 years old I had zero interest in selling anything, and even less interest in doing more pieces for any reason outside of Christmas gifts; and at the time, even gifts were made merely because my mom brought me to the studio and told me to make something. With my mom’s encouragement I continued to create mainly square bowls and sometimes ornaments. As more people began seeing my pieces, more people began encouraging me to pursue producing them as a source of income.
The tipping point for my decision to regularly create and sell my bowls came when I graduated from Genesee Early College in 2023. Being autistic, I find it difficult to interact with people, especially strangers, and this makes a traditional job very stressful. Creating the bowls is enjoyable, and selling them will provide me with income for college expenses and gas. If this goes well, it’s a win-win!
